Unfortunately I'm more familiar with MA2, so can't help you with MA3.
Dot2 gives you permission to output at least one universe without any ma hardware.
grandMA2 and grandMA3 need to have some MA hardware to grant you dmx output.
The part about softLTP is missing in the grandMA3 manual, but you can find a good explanation in the grandMA2 manual:

PS: Shouldn't you have some days off at Christmas? 
I can't answer regarding console update but for MA2 3.8, it is an update for MA2 in which you can now export patch as MA3 v.1 which also has some improvements. Just like a normal MA2 update.

how do I export the patch in the grandMA2 software as a MA3 Version?
Tried exporting the layers inside patch & fixture schedule but I can't find the files in MA3.
