Hello!
I just had one question about the 3D.
Is it possible to import plan out of autocad for example into the 3D software so I don't have to do it all again?
Thanks for your help and time!
Dear Yaneck,
unfortunately at the moment there is only a workaround for it. Try to export your fixture data as a list, copy the information an paste it into 3D software.
Please also have a look at this thread: Vectorworks?
Maybe with the next software version we will at least have the opportunity to import Vectorworks data in the dot2, as you know it from grandMA2.
I hope that helps.
Cheers, Daniel
I need a way to import our stage design data from Cast WYSIWYG. Is there a workaround for this?
Hi,
at the moment there is unfotunately no direct workaround to do this.
I would recommend that you export a list of your positions and rotations to Excel and then copy the data in the dot2 3D software. Right before this you have to patch the fixtures which are in your show.
Cheers, Daniel
That was quite messy Kanne. So I started from scratch. Our dot2 console is here to stay so I invested some time in the 3D. Looking good so far. I will post some screen shots when I get a chance.
Took a little learning but I got it! Not bad at all to make.
Overhead view...
Hey Great work on this 3d environment.
Was this room layout a preset or did you make the room from scratch?
Im having a hard time figuring out how to build rooms and environment.
I made it from scratch for my church using 2D drawings that we had in the computer as reference. There are 1,000 chairs in this auditorium that are turned off in these views. I have experience with Cast WYSIWYG so this was not too bad to learn.
We have the dot2 XL-F with a dot 2-B wing, controlling over 150 lighting fixtures on a CAT5 Art-Net and a Strand CD 80 SV Supervisor dimming rack.
Kanne,
IF we will have the opportunity to import Vectorworks data in the dot2 with the next software version (or two) I will immediately purchase Vectorworks Spotlight for our Christmas, Easter, Veterans Day and theatre setups.
Gonna go ahead and second this, Vectorworks compatibility is a must.
Hello everyone.
I've read in the FAQ that .3ds files are supported by dot2 3d. Anyone tried this and can tell us if the import went smoothly?
Thanks
Hey Yaneck,
we don't have any reports about issues with .3ds imports. So I assume that the import works as expected!
In this part of the manual you can read more about .3ds files and the importer: http://help2.malighting.com/To…42-430b-9591-1f54cd6afcc7

Thanks Lars!
Other little question (as I've never tried it before): is it possible to export the stageview 2d into a printable PDF to use as a stage blueprint?
Yes, this is possible, but only as PNG.
With the shortcut CTRL+P you can create a simple screenshot from the view which you've actually selected.
I guess with some software tools you can also convert it as PDF...
Cheers,
lars
