Fog inhibitor

  • Hi there!

I am using a couple of hazers on a theater play. I stored them on several separated sequences, apart from the main one.

Instead of readjusting the haze/blower values on each theatre venue we go to, I would like to have a inhibitor fader so I could limit the haze machines.

Since I am using haze personalities instead of two dimmer channels to control them, I am not figuring out how to do this.

Hope this made any sense. Any suggestions?

    thanks in advance.

  • What about a negative relative value?.
When you set the value to relative you can create negative values for all attributes you need. This negative value can be stored as any other, so you can create a executor with a negative relative value. When you raise this executor your smoke output will be less.

That was my idea using a groupmaster (which you can set in limiting mode f.i.)

The thing is that we´re talking about a hazer. Unless we change the fixture profile or patch it as dimmers, a hazer has no intensity channels that would be affected by a group master. The problem of the solution I suggested above is that the fader is 'inverted'. That is to say, when the fader is up, there will be no haze output and when it is down this output is at full.

There is a old trick that I use in the MA2 to invert any fader, but that involves a special fixturetype, a second executor on another page and a DMX remote. You can find a video of my friend Ivan Espada explaining this (in Spanish) for the MA2 here starting at 5'50''.

This is a bit complex setup, but if there are enough people interested I´ll try it out for MA3 and create a video to demonstrate it.

  • Thank you all!

Lots of great tips. Lots of ways to handle this issue…

What applies best to my situation is to change the fixture profile or use sifferent dimmer curve.

But it’s great to have all this feedback

    Thanks again

    Happy new year

  • you can make sequence with all your haze/fog outputs at zero. then you give it a high priority and make it a temp fader. so now it does not matter if its a dimmer/control/etc attribute. you can limit your haze/fog outputs by moving the fader upwards.

to invert that fader so that moving it upwards causes the outputs to be max lvl and moving it downwards limiting it you need to control that fader by another fader (which will be your "groupmaster" then) via dmx remote control and a inverted fixture. here is a video on how to do that in ma2. i tried it in ma3 and it works. in the video the temp fader is used to regulate effect sizes. just use your haze/fog values at zero instead of stomp. here's the link:

  • That's the trick I was talking about. Did not know this English video version tough. In fact, the 0 value has an advantage above the negative relative value because it will act relative to the recorded value, not subtractive. For example, if you have recorded a value of 60% and set your negative relative value to 50%, you'll have an output of 10%, When you use an absolute value of 0 at 50% your output will be 30%.
