thinking about 1.7

  • I was so excited to install the new 1.7 on my desks, great new functions and tools to speed up the workflow.

But my question is: why new versions bring new problems on old and working functionalities????

After one day working on my 2 fullsize with 1.7 I have found:

    -stability issue

exiting from patch saving changes has crashed the system several times

    - columns filter in patch window has visualization and funcionality errors

    - 3D visualization errors

The body of some fixture type is not visualized, only beam ( i should delete this fixtures from patch and reload from library losing programming!!!!).

Within some fixture type, some fixtures are visualized and some other not.

I'm scared to switch on my desk today, start working and find other annoying issues.

Maybe I should create my show from the start directly with 1.7 but I simply can't!!! Too much time.

I understand the needle to bring new features and power up the software, but things that were working fine have to still work fine!

  • I've run into a number of bugs in v1.7 that weren't in 1.6 - I've been able to work around most of them, and the workflow improvements in v1.7 are nice enough that I updated my console to 1.7. But I'm hoping for a bug fix release soon!

New functionality has to interact with existing functionality. In the process of making that possible, there are always possibilities that some changes might have unintended consequences. Extensive testing is performed before release to try and catch as many of those unintended consequences as possible, but not everything is or can be found if the software is to be released in any reasonable time frame. This is, for better or worse, the nature of continuous software development. I can only say to make sure you report any oddities you find to your local distributor so they can get addressed in future software updates (which will themselves inevitably have new and surprising unintended consequences :)).

Have you reported these bugs you have found to your local distributor?

  • In regards to the crash leaving patch… did you perhaps have a 3D window open at the time?

I found this the other day when adding a new fixture type from gdtf.

3D would crash the software with this fixture.

It’a been reported, but getting a new copy of that personality seemed to solve the issue. Is this perhaps the same problem for you?
