Importing Fixture Profile into Library

  • So, up until now, the fixture profiles that I have added to my dot2 have been sitting on a usb stick plugged into the back of my desk. This in itself is fine, I import them into every new show that I create, which is annoying but doable.

Problem is, my boss can't seem to figure out how to open fixture profiles on a usb when he creates a new show.

In order to help him out I have been looking into finding a way to import fixture profiles into the library on the internal drive, not just into the show. Except there doesn't seem to be a way to do so anywhere.

Any forums and manuals I have looked at will only show you how to get a fixture profile into a show, no further.

Anyone have any ideas how to do this. I'm getting sick of getting calls on my day off to tell him how to do it.

  • Hey Michael,

this is written in the help files on this page:…tureType/en/1.5
It's just a small sentence which is easy to oversee....

Here is what the manual says:

To export fixture types to a USB stick and to the fixture library on the disk, tap at the export icon [Blocked Image:]. An information pop-up opens and tells you what fixture type was exported. The fixture type .xml file is on the USB stick in the folder dot2\library. Furthermore the fixture type can be imported via the Import Fixture Type Window.

After a software update or a factory reset, the fixture library in the Import Fixture Type window will be reset as well. Exported fixture types will be deleted.

  • Hi Lars,

This doesn't seem to answer my question as it doesn't seem to apply to what I am attempting.

What I am attempting to do is import the fixture profiles FROM USB to the INTERNAL drive. This way, when I go to "Add new Fixtures", then "Select Other" I will find the new Fixture Profile on the list without the need to scroll through to a separate drive as this seems to be beyond my boss' capabilities.

In other words, the fixture profile was downloaded from MA Fixture Share, and is already on the USB Drive I am trying to move it from there onto the Internal Drive

  • Hello MichaelIP,

there seems to be a little missunderstanding between Lars and you.

What Lars described, is exactly the way to have your own fixture types permanently in the consoles libary, imported from a USB stick.

    1. You have your own Fixture Type on USB, folder dot2/ libary.

The software version of the Fixture builder, with which the Fixture Type was created, is equal to the software version, the dot2 console runs on.

(or Fixture builder is older than lower than the consoles sw version, this works too)

    2. Go into setup/patch/ change fixture type.

    3. import the desired Fixture type from your USB drive.

    4. Mark the imported Fixture Type (white frame around it) and export the fixture type.

A message will appear, that there was allready a Fixture Type of the same name- ignore it, this pops up because the dot2 exports the Fixture Type into the consoles libary as well as again on the plugged in USB drive. (like you´re backing up a showfile- if a USB drive is connected, dot2 will save it onto the internal and USB drive)

    That´s it.

From now on, the Fixture Type is pemanently in the consoles libary- until you do a full install- this will delete all files on the internal harddisk and the software will install itself new (without custom Fixture Types and showfiles)

If you want to make it even smarter for your boss, give your custom Fixture types his Surname as a Manufactor (lol)

Or AAA as a manufactor, then he doesn´t has to search long in the libary- he´s Fixtures are on top all the time ;)

    Hope this helps,
